Humans of JDM: Here’s How Arun Kumar Describes His 4 Years at JDM!
- March 14, 2022 - Views: 539While we all feel nervous before stepping into a new workspace culture, it eventually comes down to growing with a team of skilled professionals who in no time feel like family. This is exactly what Arun Kumar feels about JDM. A young aspirant who came with a designer profile now handles an entire team. How thrilling the journey must have been! Let’s hear it from the man himself!
Arun Kumar on his four-year-long journey in JDM.
Why JDM? And How Did You Land Here?
I had just come from Delhi when I applied at JDM. I worked in Delhi for nearly two years. While everything was great about my work there, I just somehow could not adjust to the city’s fast life. Delhi people, you feel me? (giggles).
One hour of one-sided travelling to work every day, work pressure, zero personal life, all of these things started to take a toll on my health. And that’s when I finally decided to move to Chandigarh and eventually landed up here.
Okay, I have to share this. I have a dark complexion. So, at the time of my interview with Raman sir, he assumed that I’m a south Indian who hardly knows Punjabi. So, he was trying his best to speak in pure Hindi to make me feel comfortable. But the moment my inner Punjabi boy came out, I could see the relief on his face. (laughs)
And today, I feel grateful that we share such a special connection.
From Being a Designer to Now a Team Lead, How Enthralling Does That Feel?
Oh, it feels amazing! Hectic too.
I truly believe that my attentive and conscientious approach towards my work is what made me what I am today. For many, work becomes mundane once they settle in the company atmosphere but I have always tried to come forward and do my part best. I just cannot sit and not actively communicate my ideas with the team.
In JDM also, there were employees who took absolutely no interest in taking initiatives. They used to complete their daily allotted work and go. Though it sounds sensible enough, it hampers your growth, right?
But luckily, I have never been a part of such a group. So, yeah. For me, the journey has been awesome.
How Challenging or Fun Is It to Handle a Team?
Did you say fun? What’s that? (laughs).
Well, being a team leader sounds all fancy but it has its own pros and cons. There are times when you have to go beyond your personal connections and be harsh on your team members. See, it’s important. You cannot compromise with your professionalism.
People used to think I’ve become arrogant due to my higher position but what they don’t understand is that you’re managing a whole team! A team leader has to see hundreds of things. And when the workflow is hampered, the responsibility falls on your shoulder. Right?
Okay, enough of the emotional breakdown! (laughs)
And yes, playing Saturday activities with the team is surely too much fun.
What Has Been Your Biggest Learning Experience in JDM?
I’ve learned so much from this company that I cannot list just one. A boy who only knew the basics of designing started hosting websites, email campaigns and learned so much about SEO and operations.
Actually, I remember there was no experienced developer back then when I joined. I truly think that’s the major reason that I got a bunch of opportunities to explore and learn. Today, I am proud that I can easily handle different aspects of my work.
What Would You Describe as the Best Thing About JDM?
Ah, what do I say about JDM! It has become more like a family now. Too typical, right? (Laughs) But it is what it is.
During the past four years here, I have known the company to its best. I am well aware of its management, directors, co-workers, the workspace and I can say that JDM always hears you out.
The company and the CEO are so flexible when it comes to work or even personal concerns. There have been times when I have stayed back till midnight and even after that to design a website. And the next day I’ve always got the leverage to chill at my home without having to worry about what my boss would say! Because this is so common in most workplaces where people do not even recognize your work.
I am so glad that Raman sir has always acknowledged my dedication to my work. After all, this is what you seek from your boss, right?
So, If I had to describe the best thing about JDM in one word, it would be its ‘flexible’ attitude. Oh, and Saturday activities too.
Do You See Further Growth in JDM?
Of course! The precious time that I have given to this company, I absolutely seek growth and I am eventually growing every day. But if I talk from a professional perspective, yes, I see myself here for the upcoming few years.
